Primary Focus Issues

PRIMARY AREAS OF FOCUS 

Strategically through Television and Film to increase and enhance the impact of MSEF supported Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender media the board of directors of our organization has established a large list of issues and interests. Below is the list of priority interest and focus areas for the projects supported MSEF.

LGBT CIVIL RIGHTS

MSEF holds to the proposition that we all have certain personal rights by virtue of our citizenship. These rights include; the right to equality, freedom, good governance, justice, and due process of law are inalienable human rights. MSEF supports media projects that help to define, promote and defend these rights for the LGBT community.

HUMAN RIGHTS

MSEF believes strongly that Human rights are basic rights and freedoms that all people are entitled to regardless of gender, sexual orientation, nationality, national or ethnic origin, religion, language, or other status. They include civil and political rights, such as the right to life, liberty and freedom of expression; and social, cultural and economic rights including the right to participate in culture, the right to food, and the right to work and receive an education. MSEF encourages and promotes media efforts that enhance these basic rights with quality and diverse projects that focus on holding society accountable for isolating and segregating the LGBT community and betraying the integrity and diversity at the heart of human rights.

GENDER IDENTITY

MSEF supports media programs and projects that promote a rational and non-stereotypical approach to the understanding the issues surrounding development of gender and identity in our culture.

HOMOPHOBIA

MSEF supports the creation and development of media projects whose goal is to increase visibility, encourage and facilitate acceptance of the LGBT community and agenda to the public at large through development of non-stereotypical and positive LGBT role models and media programs.

HIV AIDS/HEALTH

MSEF supports those projects that help promote healthier lifestyles for the LGBT community including better access to health care and continuing support for HIV/Aids education and intervention programs.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH

MSEF encourages and supports the success of children and students in developing their full potential by increasing the visibility of positive non stereotypical LGBT role models thereby encouraging acceptance, improving school performance reducing school violence, reducing bullying, reducing Teen Suicide, and ultimately creating a safer and healthier school environments

REDUCE VIOLENCE AGAINST LGBT COMMUNITY

MSEF believes that one effective strategy to reducing violence against the LGBT community is by encouraging acceptance and providing positive models of behavior for others to emulate and aspire to. As such, MSEF supports projects that bring focus to the issue of violence and interventions to help stop these behaviors.

PROMOTE DIVERSITY

MSEF is committed to supporting projects that promote diversity, encourage acceptance and foster a sense of pride for all peoples of color in the LGBT  community.

ADVOCACY

MSEF supports projects that support, promote and advocate for the fair treatment, acceptance and equality of all members of the LGBTQ community.

RELIGION

MSEF supports the rights of all members of the LGBT community to practice and participate in the faith of their choice without regard to of sexual orientation as fully accepted and recognized members of that faith.
